Project Profile: IL 157

The Project

IL 157 is a two- to four-lane highway. Work on this project began near Petroff and passed through the town of Caseyville. Jim Cunningham and Rodney Honeycutt, the AMI field support engineers on the job, went over the J-Band checklist with IDOT personnel who were present. The team on this job had worked with J-Band before.

J-Band was scheduled to be applied 18” wide at a rate of 1.47 lb./ft. After being applied, J-Band reached 150°F in just two minutes.
The surface course was paved with 1.5” of a 9.5-mm D mix-N70.

The Results

J-Band was observed to migrate up into this overlay prior to compaction. Light shadowing could be seen in the pavement in the area where J-Band had been applied, which indicates upward migration. Density at the joint was taken with a nuclear gauge and found to be 96.9%. The J-Band team will monitor this project and report on J-Band’s performance over the coming years.
