MLK Drive is a four-lane major collector located in the City of Waukegan, a part of the Chicago metro area. Jim, the field support engineer from AMI, went over the particulars of working with J-Band with the prime contractor and agency representatives present the morning of the application.

J-Band was placed on a recently installed binder course. Jim noted that the application was consistent and well done throughout the project.

After applying, J-Band cooled to 190°F in just a few minutes. A pick up truck was driven over the J-Band to test non-tracking properties. When the recently-laid J-Band didn’t track or pull up, further construction was fit to proceed. The final lift was paved the next day.

The application on Martin Luther King Drive was successful. Some portions of the project were designated as control sections (where J-Band was not applied, control sections were paved as normal). These sections will allow the J-Band team to easily monitor the difference that J-Band makes in the life of the longitudinal joint over years of service life.
