2020 MNDOT Iowa State University Study

The Institute for Transportation at Iowa State University tested the use of J-Band VRAM for HMA longitudinal joint performance. They concluded, "The use of VRAM improves the performance of the asphalt pavement mat at the longitudinal joints because it reduces permeability and lowers air void content, thereby protecting against deterioration (i.e., cracking and stripping) caused by water and air infiltration. Improved performance in terms of cracking resistance was also evident because the VRAM section was found to have higher fracture resistance."
